Plan Description
Head north from Kyoto to Amanohashidate, one of Japan's three most scenic views. Ride the cable car up to Kasamatsu Park for the famous 'upside-down' view of the pine-covered sandbar, then visit Chion-ji Temple before lunch on Tango Chirimen Street, once the center of the local silk trade. In the afternoon, continue to Ine, a fishing hamlet where wooden boat houses line the bay. Covering about 260km round trip, this day is hard to combine without your own vehicle.

Q. Is the Amanohashidate cable car or lift fare included?
The round-trip cable car or lift fare up to Kasamatsu Park is not included and is paid on site on the day.
Q. Does this run in winter?
Yes, year-round, but the Kasamatsu Park cable car and lift can be suspended in December-February due to heavy snow and strong winds typical of the Sea of Japan coast. If that happens, we adjust the itinerary to a ground-level viewpoint or nearby Nariai-ji Temple.
Q. Do we walk around the Ine boat houses?
Yes. The road along Ine Bay is narrow and not suited to large vehicles, so we park at Funaya-no-Sato Park and walk from there. Let us know in advance if you'd like to add the optional Ine Bay boat cruise (extra charge).
