Plan Description
By mid-morning, Kyoto slows to a crawl. Traffic restrictions and a shortage of parking mean that most of a daytime tour is spent getting between temples rather than at them. Leave at 6am and the same four sites take half the time, with no queues and no crowds in your photos. Fushimi Inari is open around the clock and Kiyomizu-dera opens at 6, so both can be seen before breakfast. Ninenzaka and the Yasaka Pagoda are best walked in the quiet 8 oclock hour, and Kinkaku-ji opens at 9 to finish. With a private car you set the departure time and leave your bags on board.

Q. How early can we start?
Departures from around 5am are possible. Please tell us your preferred start time when you book, though we may ask to adjust it depending on the previous days operations.
Q. Kinkaku-ji opens at 9. Does it still fit into 4 hours?
Yes, if you depart at 6am. Fushimi Inari and Kiyomizu-dera are covered during the quiet early hours, putting you at Kinkaku-ji shortly after it opens. If you need a later start, we suggest dropping Kinkaku-ji or choosing the 5 hour option.
Q. Are the temples actually open that early?
Fushimi Inari Taisha is open at all hours, Kiyomizu-dera opens at 6:00 and Kinkaku-ji at 9:00. Shops and amulet counters are often still closed in the early morning, so allow extra time if you plan to buy anything.
