Plan Description

Head west along the Sea of Japan from Sapporo. The first stop is the Nikka distillery in Yoichi, where stone kilns still stand from the 1930s, before the road narrows towards Cape Kamui. Walk the Charenka path along the spine of the cape and the water falls away on both sides in the deep shade locals call Shakotan Blue. A short tunnel then opens without warning onto the Shimamui Coast, clear enough to see the seabed from above. On the way back you stop in Otaru for the canal and Sakaimachi Street before returning to Sapporo. About 240km round trip, no transfers.

Pick-up & Drop-off Points

Sapporo → Yoichi Distillery → Cape Kamui → Shimamui Coast → Otaru → Sapporo *If the Cape Kamui gate is closed, we shift the time to the Shimamui Coast and the Cape Shakotan viewpoint instead.

Important Notes / Cancellation Policy

  • If you are not at the pick-up location after your scheduled departure time, your booking will be automatically canceled.
  • Delays may occur due to traffic conditions. Please allow plenty of time when making your reservation.
  • If you wish to change the time or location, please cancel your current reservation and book again.

Cancellation Policy

Once the booking is confirmed, cancellation fees will apply under the following conditions:

  • Up to 3 days before the departure date: Free
  • 1 to 2 days before the departure date: 30% of the total fare
  • On the departure date up to the scheduled time: 50% of the total fare
  • After the scheduled departure time: 100% of the total fare

Q. Can we always walk out to the tip of Cape Kamui?

Not always. The Charenka path to the tip is closed by a gate in strong wind, and opening hours shift with the season and the weather on the day. If it is closed we use the time for the viewpoints near the car park and the Shimamui Coast instead. Walking the cape itself is free and takes about 40 minutes there and back.

Q. Is sea urchin available all year?

Shakotan's raw sea urchin rice bowls follow the fishing season, roughly June to August, and some restaurants close for the winter. Meals are not included in the charter price and are paid on site. Popular places have queues, so tell us in advance if you have one in mind.

Q. Can we skip Otaru?

Yes. Without the Otaru stop the route fits into 8 hours, which lowers the price accordingly. If you would rather add dinner in Otaru or the evening view from Mt. Tengu, choose the 10-hour option.
